Collection Schedule

  • Half of the Village is serviced on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; the other half on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

  • Garbage and rubbish are not collected on holidays observed by the Town of North Hempstead. If a holiday falls on your scheduled pickup day, collection will occur the following day.

  • A map of the collection routes is available for reference here or in the dropdown menus below.

Recycling Guidelines

  • Recycling is collected on your regular garbage pickup days. There is no separate recycling-only day.

  • All plastic containers must be rinsed clean and placed in clear plastic bags.

  • Cardboard, newspapers, and magazines must be flattened, bundled, and tied together.

  • Recyclables should be placed in blue bins for pickup. Call 311 Town of North Hempstead to get a recycling sticker for the bin mailed to you.

  • Trucks are equipped with split compartments to keep garbage and recyclables separated during collection.

*For more information, please see the Town of North Hempstead’s Recycling Information page here.

Rubbish and Bulk Item Pickup

  • Rubbish includes most household items that are not considered food waste or recyclables.

  • Construction debris and materials related to permitted building work are not accepted.

  • Rubbish must be brought to the curb, defined as the grassy area near the street and driveway.

  • Large or bulk items, such as furniture, must be placed at the curb on your last collection day of the week (either Friday or Saturday).

  • You are allowed up to two large items per week. If you have more than that, call Meadow Carting in advance to arrange a special Saturday pickup.

Yard Waste

  • Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in paper lawn and leaf bags.

  • Yard waste is collected on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Additional Waste Categories

  • Cardboard must be flattened and bundled for curbside pickup.

  • Newspapers and magazines should be stacked, bundled, and placed at the curb on Thursdays or Fridays.

  • Electronics/e-waste can be dropped off on Sundays, 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, at 999 West Shore Road, Roslyn.

  • Medication disposal is available at local police stations — do not place in household trash.

  • Hazardous household items can be disposed of through the Town’s STOP Program.

  • You may also consider donating usable items through website/app Freecycle.
